Ingredients

  • 70 g All purpose flour, sifted
  • 3 pcs Apples, cored, sliced
  • 250 ml Milk, lactose free, warmed
  • 3 pcs Eggs
  • 70 g Cane sugar
  • 4 tbsp Unsalted butter, lactose free, melted
  • 1 tsp Vanilla extract, alcohol-free
  • 1/2 tsp Baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp Cinnamon, ground
  • 1 pinch Salt

Method

  1. In a large mixing bowl, mix flour, baking soda, 1 tablespoon of cane sugar, and salt.
  2. Add eggs in, then mix precisely to avoid lumps.
  3. In batches, add milk, stirring constantly, then add vanilla and half of the melted butter.
  4. Let the batter rest for half an hour, then preheat the oven to 190°C.
  5. Prepare the apples: peel, core, and slice them.
  6. Mix the sugar with the cinnamon.
  7. Take a 5cm deep oven-proof skillet and melt the remaining butter.
  8. Coat the skillet on the sides with the butter, then add the sugar.
  9. Arrange the apple slices on the melting sugar and wait until the sugar starts to bubble.
  10. Take off from heat and add the batter carefully, then place the skillet into the oven.
  11. Bake on 220°C for 15 minutes then lower the heat to 190°C and bake for 15 more minutes.
  12. When it's done, place it onto a serving plate because if the caramel cools down and hardens at the bottom, it will be difficult to take it out from the skillet.
